Finally, the rain, the sun, the longer days… that means one thing: time for planting!  Whether you have an acre or a rooftop garden box, you can probably use a hand in helping your garden grow.

3 Gardening Apps for Fabulous Flowers, Herbs and Vegetables:

1. Sun Seeker: 3D Augmented Reality Viewer by ozPDA,

Ideal for helping gardeners find optimal planting locations for current and seasonal solar exposure.  Before you get down to digging, planting, watering and praying to the gods to let your seeds germinate and turn into something resembling living things, you might want to check out where to actually put your seeds first.

Sun Seeker generates an augmented reality overlay of the sun’s position, so you can identify sunny and shady spots of your patch – and allocate plant positions according to their lighting needs. Get this right and your chances of success are higher before the soil’s even been broken. Available Free on iTunes.

2. Garden Compass is great for those who need help finding essential data — like what season a plant blooms and how much light it needs. The coolest part of the app has a plant or pest identifier.

Take a picture of the item you need help with, email it to the Garden Compass team — and an expert will answer your question. Because the app tags your geolocation, the expert will tell you additional details based on where you live. The app is free at Apple’s App store. For more details and great gardening advice check out gardencompass.

3. iScape: This simple app helps users visualize the design of a garden, yard or landscape effortlessly. A picture can be shot using the device’s camera. The picture then becomes the background layer of the screen. You may then add details like flowers, walkways and fences. The tasteful menu at the bottom of the screen allows you to visit the Database, Textures, and Clear or Share your design.  There are a few options for free, but if you want more textures and images it’s going to cost $10. The app is free at Apple’s App Store and Google Play.

Mary, Mary, quite contrary, How does your garden grow? With silver bells, and cockle shells, And pretty maids all in a row.
